Stop SOPA

Dear reader

I’m often against decisions made by the German government. Most of them just pissing me of. I went to some demonstrations against laws that are cutting my personal rights, my right to write and say whatever I want and so on.

During the last days the U.S. government approved a law / a bill introduced by Lamar Smith. The bill is called SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act). The goal of this bill is to “expand the ability of federal law enforcement to shut down foreign Web sites and services that use counterfeited or pirated content created by U.S. firms.”

This bill allows the U.S. of A. to shut down websites they don’t like or agree with. Additionally the site and the provider are punished!

ACT now and sign this petition. As a non American citizen, sign this one!

AppDictionary

Hey guys,

it’s a little quite here. The reason is very simple. I’m writing my own app this days.

As you might have noticed, my roots are Microsoft based. I use(d) .NET very much and I kinda like it :) The Android Framework is quite good, too, but I’ve written the most lines of code in C# and not in Java or C/C++. My biggest “enemy” is Eclipse. It’s quite cool, don’t get me wrong. But MS Visual Studio is THE IDE for .NET based languages. Eclipse feels quite slow and laggy :(

I need more time to dive into Java and Android-SDK. So stay tuned.

The App itself is an implementation of the “AppDictionary”, which I’ve mentioned in The Android Experience. The thoughts behind are the same. Build a lookup dictionary for APK-Files and their containing apps.

I’m fighting with the package manager right now. It seems that the PM cannot handle not installed apps. A list of apps is build very fast, but parsing the meta-data drives me crazy right now.

So long …

what happend to OpenOffice.org

You’ve might have noticed, that OOo was set under Oracles supervision due to the purchase of Sun. OpenOffice.org was meant as an “real” alternative to Microsoft Office – productline.

In fact, it never established the way it should have been. The last stable version (3.3) was released in January 2011. The company I am working for uses OOo as an alternative to MSO for some kind of documents.
