The Android experience VIII [unfinished]

Hi guys,

I’ve played a little with the linkedIn App.

Well, the first thing to do after any download or installation is to configure the permissions using LBE. The settings I’ve made:

  • Access contacts
    [prompt]
  • Access call logs
    [prompt]
  • Phone Identification
    [reject]
  • Network
    [allow]

The second thing is to configure the permissions using Permissions Denied. As you might saw in my “profile” I work in the computer industry (yeah, no kidding ;) ) I did a lot of system integration and assimilation ;)

My “dogma” for systems integration is: allow everything and restrict / limit afterwards.

I’ve inverted this “dogma” for android or smartphones in general: allow nothing and grant more access if it fails.

I never ever had problems using this method. Until now …

The linkedIn app crashed round about 10 times, until it worked properly. But let’s start with the requested permissions:

  • READ_SYNC_STATS
  • USE_CREDENTIALS
  • WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
  • GET_ACCOUNTS
  • WRITE_CONTACTS
  • ACCESS_WIFI_STATE
  • AUTHENTICATE_ACCOUNTS
  • READ_PHONE_STATE
  • WRITE_SYNC_SETTINGS
  • CAMERA
  • INTERNET
  • READ_SYNC_SETTINGS
  • MANAGE_ACCOUNTS
  • BROADCAST_STICKY
  • WRITE_SETTINGS
  • READ_CONTACTS
  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE

Well this is a lot! ATM I’ve disabled the following permissions:

  • READ_SYNC_STATS
  • ACCESS_WIFI_STATE
  • WRITE_SETTINGS
  • READ_CONTACTS

Some permissions are mandatory:

  • USE_CREDENTIALS
  • MANAGE_ACCOUNTS
  • BROADCAST_STICKY
  • AUTHENTICATE_ACCOUNTS

At least to set-up the app. I’ll do some research tomorrow!

  1. Amazing blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A theme like yours with a few simple adjustements would really make my blog shine. Please let me know where you got your theme. Many thanks

  2. A lot of what you articulate is astonishingly accurate and that makes me ponder why I had not looked at this with this light previously. This article truly did turn the light on for me personally as far as this particular subject goes. However there is just one point I am not necessarily too cozy with so while I attempt to reconcile that with the actual central idea of the point, let me see exactly what all the rest of the visitors have to say.Very well done.
